Dear DIY Today,

What's the best way to fix a leaky faucet? I've made several attempts with no luck.

Fixing a leaky faucet is usually a inexpensive repair. The first thing you need to do is to shut off the water supply leading to the leaking faucet. Once done make sure its off by turning the faucet handles on and let any remaining water drain out.

First you need to remove the decorative cap. Once removed remove the bolt that secures it to the handle. Next locate the O-ring and inspect it to make sure it's not damaged. You'll find the the O-ring fitted at the bottom of the stem. Next as you continue to dismantle the faucet you need to remove the stem to locate the washer. This is most likely the reason you need to repair this leaky faucet.

I would advise you to replace both the washer and the O-ring. It's not going to "break the bank" and while your fixing this leak for the faucet you need to dismantle the other faucet handle and do the same repair. Reassemble your faucet and turn it on slowly to check for leaks. If it's still leaking you may have to replace the the valve seat.
