 The Eco-Friendly Bedroom

For many people going green is more than simply a passing trend. For most it is a conscience decision to lead a healthier and more eco friendly life style. Many decorations and bedroom furniture contain chemicals that make them impossible to break down over time, leaving the world with more waste. There are many steps you can take to insure that your bedroom is as eco friendly as possible, without sacrificing style and comfort.

Who says you have to new bedroom furniture? Why not fix up your old one and save some money, while helping to save the environment. Strip it down, stain it, repaint it, or whatever else you can think of to help give your furniture new life. There’s also no reason to throw out other furniture that could easily but to use in the bedroom.

An old TV tray, wooden box, and many other items can make great nightstands and bedside tables.

You can also buy organic bedding to help maintain a green bedroom. Chemicals like formaldehyde are often used in the creation of most bed sheets to make them soft. You can avoid chemicals like these by purchasing chemical free sheets such as organic cotton.

Any bedding that is “stain proof” or “stain resistant” has been treated with chemicals at some point. Avoid any sheets or blankets carrying this label to help keep yourself safe as well as the environment.

Organic cotton bedding is also helpful because it doesn’t support the cotton industry that uses pesticides to help grow their cotton. Organic means no chemicals and that’s good news for everyone.

Buying an organic mattress can is another great way to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals in your bedroom. Fire retardant mattresses are covered in flame proof chemicals, but there are many organic mattresses that pass the same fire safety tests as their chemical laden counter parts.

When it comes to going green, every little bit helps. Following a few of these simple guidelines will help improve your quality of living, as well as the environment itself.
