How To Fix And Repair Potholes In Gravel Driveways |
There are a few simple methods for repairing holes in gravel driveways. These potholes are usually created by erosion as a result of water being underneath the gravel surface. As it snows or rains it erodes the dirt beneath it creating a hole. Cars and trucks driving over it further complicate the problem. Repairing Holes in Gravel Driveways: One method is filling the holes with rocks. It's better to use rounded rocks then jagged ones. Fill the hole with rocks about 3/4 to the top of the hole. Cover the remaining area with gravel using a rake to level it. Another method filling the pothole with pure gravel and tamping it down firmly with a tamping tool. If you don't own a tamping tool you could use a piece of scrap 4X4 lumber. Yet another method is to fill the pothole in your gravel driveway with dirt. Fill the hole completely and tamp it down. Keep doing this process until the hole is packed tightly with dirt. Add additional gravel on top of the dirt and level it with a rake. If none of the above options appeal to you, the pothole in your gravel driveway could be filled with sand. Fill the hole until it has a small mound over the top of it. Tamp it firmly down and repeat the process until the pothole is firmly packed. Add gravel to the top and smooth over with a rake. Tip: Purchase gravel that matches the existing gravel on your driveway to ensure a uniform appearance. |
