How To Seal A Concrete Driveway |
Over time a driveway will eventually need to be sealed. Salts used to thaw ice
on a driveway can deteriorate it. The driveway needs to be sealed from water
penetrating it as well. Cars and people also wear it down. A penetrating sealer will go beneath the surface but
protects the overall texture of the concrete driveway. You'll need: Roller How to apply sealant to a concrete driveway: 1. Sweep down the entire driveway with a broom. Once done, use a garden hose and spray down the driveway, removing any remaining dirt or debris. 2. Let the concrete driveway dry completely before attempting to seal it. 3. Once dry, apply the penetrating sealant to the concrete using a roller. If your driveway is sloped, start at the high end, working down to the low end of the driveway. Make sure to apply the sealant evenly with your roller, using long, even strokes. Don't try to hurry the process - every inch of the driveway should be sealed. 4. Allow the concrete sealer to dry according to the manufacturers instructions, usually about 24 hours. Tip: Make sure you seal your driveway on a day when rain is not expected, preferably a sunny or warm day. |
