How To Seal A Asphalt Driveway

You should seal your asphalt driveway at least every two years. The weather gets tough on the driveway. Freezing temperatures and ice, hot summer days and sunlight all contribute to breaking down the asphalt.

Before you begin sealing your asphalt driveway you should make sure any potholes or large cracks have been repaired.

You'll need:

Old clothes you don't mind discarding when done. Asphalt Sealer
Garden Hose
Broom
Roller
Stir Stick

Clean The Asphalt Driveway

Before getting started, make sure the surface of the asphalt driveway is clean by sweeping it off and follow-up with a good wash with a garden hose. Remove oil spots with a good detergent.  Allow to completely dry before applying the asphalt sealant.

Seal the Asphalt Driveway

1. Make sure the asphalt sealer is mixed well. Use a stirring stick until well blended.

2. Starting at one end of the driveway, pour some of the sealer onto the driveway and spread it will a roller. If your driveway is on a angle, start at the highest end of it and work your way down.

3. Allow to dry per the manufacturers instructions, usually a day or two. Don't walk or park on it until completely dry.
