How To Fix Or Repair An Asphalt Driveway

 StarbucksStore.com

Asphalt driveways eventually get cracks and holes due to the weather and being driven on. Repairing a damaged asphalt driveway is a do it yourself project you can get done on a weekend. When working on your asphalt driveway, it's best to choose a day when it won't be raining.

Clean your driveway by using a broom to remove dirt and debris. Also, remove any chunks or pieces of damaged asphalt. Next, using a garden hose spray any remaining dirt from the asphalt surface. Allow to dry.

Cracks:

For cracks up to 1/2" wide, apply a asphalt crack filler, making sure to squeeze it deep into the driveway crack. Smooth it with a putty knife. Allow to dry.

Potholes and Large Cracks:

You'll need to purchase asphalt cold-patch compound to fill these areas. Shovel it into the cracks and holes. Wearing gloves, use a scrap piece of 2X4 or 4X4, pack the asphalt cold-patch blacktop by tamping with the end of the wood. You could also by a tamping tool, but the wood will achieve the same results. Fill and tamp as needed, until the surface is level.

Use your broom and sweep any excess compound from the driveway.

Allow it to completely dry, according the the package instructions, before using your asphalt driveway.
