How To Use A Carpet Seaming Iron

If you are going to bond two pieces of carpet at the seam you will need a seaming iron. It is used specifically for seaming carpet. Don't try to do this with a clothes iron. Your local rental store should have one. A seaming iron connects carpet pieces by activating a seaming tape that's placed underneath the carpet at the edges to be joined.

1. After you have made your cuts, place the seaming tape on the floor, adhesive side up.

2. Heat the seaming iron to the tape manufacturers recommendations.

3. Place the hot seaming iron on top of the tape, usually for about 30 seconds and move the iron over the tape in a gradual and slow movement. Make sure the iron is not too hot. It could burn the carpet fibers and cause it to discolor.

4. Use a carpet roller to seal and blend the two carpet pieces.
