How To Use A Knee Kicker |
|
|
|
A knee kicker is primarily used to pull the edges
of the carpet and attach it to the tack strip. For the actual stretching of
the carpet a carpet power
stretcher is required. A knee kicker consists of a piece of metal tubing
with a cushion on one end and a pin plate on the other. It's used to help
remove wrinkles and sags in the carpet and give it a smooth surface.
1. Once you have your tack strips, carpet padding installed and the carpet layed out it needs to be stretched to remove the bulges and wrinkles. This is done by attaching the carpet to the knee kicker. Place it at the edge of the carpet so it will grab it. 2. Use a pushing motion with your knee. The cushioned area of the knee kicker should rest above your need. Apply pressure and attach the carpet to the tack strip. 3. Use the power stretcher to get the carpet smooth. Use the knee kicker to attach the carpet to the tack strips. 4. The knee kicker has various adjustment settings to properly grab the carpet. Try several settings until you get the right grip and make sure you remove lint as you go. |
