How To Use A Carpet Power Stretcher |
|
||
|
A carpet power stretcher is not to be confused
with a knee kicker. It is used to grab a hold of the carpet and stretch it,
leaving a flat smooth surface. One end is braced against the wall. The other
end grips the carpet, about 6" to 8" from where it will be attached to the
tack strip. When the lever is pressed the carpet is gripped with teeth through
the fibers and into it's backing and is stretched. The power stretcher has
adjustments to get the right setting for the carpet you're laying. If you take
your time, this is a project you can do yourself, along with a helper.
1. Have the carpet padding and tack strips already in place. 2. Stretch the length first. Start at one end and work your way across, stretching sections about every eighteen inches. Attach the carpet to the tack strips as you go. 3. Once the length has been anchored, use a knee kicker to stretch and attach to the side wall. If it's too hard to stretch use the carpet power stretcher by starting in the middle. Stretch the carpet to a side wall and attach it to the tack strip. Work on attaching the carpet to the opposite wall by stretching every 18" and attach it to the tack stripping. 4. Use the knee kicker to stretch tight areas such as corners. |
