How To Remove A Carpet Burn
By Jerry Holt

Carpet burns usually are the result of a careless drop of a cigarette or a spark flying out of the fireplace. You can repair a burn in carpet using the following techniques:

1. The melted fibers from the burned area in the carpet need to be removed. You can use a piece of sandpaper or a steel scrubbing pad. You need to need to rub the burned area until the melted carpet fibers are no longer visible. Once done, vacuum the area to see if it's gone. If not, you will have to go on to step two.

2. In order to remove a deep burn in the carpet it's going to need to be cut out and the burned carpet are will be replaced. Use something circular shaped, like a cookie cutter, to mark the area to be cut.

With a utility knife carefully cut out the carpet. Try not to cut into the padding. Once the burned carpet area has been removed it's time to replace it. Use the same circular device that you used to remove the burned carpet and cut a new piece of carpet. You could use a piece of carpet from another area of the house that is less visible, maybe from a closet. If you're lucky you may have a remnant from the original carpet around the house somewhere.

Apply carpet glue to the back and sides of the replacement patch of carpet. Press firmly into place onto the carpet padding. If you accidentally cut through the padding you will need to apply some glue underneath it as well. Use a carpet roller to blend the seams. If you don't want to rent a carpet roller you could try using a rolling pin. Allow it to dry completely before walking on it.
