I'm a do it yourself person. My kitchen needs help and I'm thinking about staining the kitchen cabinets. Never refaced cabinets before. Have any suggestions?

Staining your cabinets can be a fun and rewarding project. You'll be amazed at the difference it will make in your kitchen.

Before you can reface the cabinets you'll need to remove the cabinet doors to start with. Once removed you need to remove all of the hardware from the cabinet and the doors, including the hinges. You don't absolutely need to take the entire cabinet down but if you can it will make your staining project easier.

Before you can stain kitchen cabinets you need to remove the old paint or stain that's already on them.

Don't forget to wear a dust mask and carefully sand down the entire cabinet and doors. Some areas may have to be sanded by hand.

Once you have papered and taped off the walls to avoid getting stain on them you can begin staining the kitchen cabinets. The best method is with a brush and old cloth. You need to initially apply the stain with a brush and then wipe excess off with your cloth. Make sure you are going with the cabinet wood grain.

Once the newly stained kitchen cabinets have completely dried you can reattach the hardware and hinges and hang the cabinet doors as they were originally. Now it's time to stand back and admire the new facelift you have done to your kitchen.
