Dear DIY Today,

My shower floor is in need of a makeover. I'm thinking about installing shower tile. Is this a complicated project?

Here are some basic tips:

* Before you begin to install shower tile you need to make sure the shower floor is clean and dry. Apply a waterproof mastic in sections as it tends to dry quickly. Using a trowel spread it on the shower floor, creating grooves by using the notched side after it's been spread.

* Once the section of the floor has been spread with the adhesive it's time to install shower tile.

Locate the horizontal and vertical working lines and firmly set the tile along the side of one of them. Be careful not to shift too much of the mastic when you're setting the tiles into place.

* Lay the tiles one row at a time and check the alignment with the working lines.

* A 4 1/8th inch tile should have lugs on each side that are used as a spacer. This will help ensure proper alignment and they won't be visible once the grout has been applied.
