You'll want to use insulation with a value of R-11. Measure the clearance around fixtures. If you don't have enough clearance because the duct is installed too close to walls you'll have to use a lower value of insulation. Make sure you are wearing a dust mask and have long sleeve clothing on. Goggles may be helpful also. |

You'll Need:
Foil Faced Insulation Batts Before you insulate your ductwork make sure no gaps exist in the ducts and repair with duct tape if necessary. Measure the circumference of the duct and wrap the foil faced insulation around the duct and secure in with duct tape along the entire length of the insulation. Continue this process and tape around the circumference at each end where the insulation meets. If you have problems with the duct running next to a joist wrap
as much as possible and tape and staple the foil insulation securely. Remember
if you are insulating ducts located on the attic floor you only need to insulate
the areas of the duct that aren't already covered by loose fill insulation.
